Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus attended the first joint working session of all organising committees of Paris Olympic 2024 on April 20, 2018 to conceptualize the details of the social orientation of Paris Olympic 2024. It aims to deliver the first inclusive and socially oriented Olympic facilities in the history of Olympics under the guidance of Professor Yunus. During the meeting he gave his guidance to the working groups composed of the co-ordinating committee Paris 2024, overarching super committee Solideo, la Maison les Canaux (French house of social economy) , and the City government of Paris.
Paris 2024 group of organising committees gave a warm welcome to Professor Yunus and thanked him for his continuous support and guidance. Jean-Francois Martins, Paris Deputy Mayor for Sports and Youth, made the welcome speech and presented the vision of the City government of Paris towards inclusive and sustainable Games.
All committees presented their plans for the inclusive and sustainable program for 2024 during the joint working session.
Paris 2024 decided to undertake a visit to the Olympic and Paralympic sites under the leadership of Mayor Anne Hidalgo next month, followed by a meeting to approve the final version of the action plan. A date has been fixed for this visit in consultation with Professor Yunus.
In November 2016 Professor Yunus, Mayor Anne Hidalgo of Paris, on behalf of Yunus Centre, the City government of Paris respectively, signed an agreement to use the candidacy of Paris for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games as a tool for the promotion of social business, to improve inclusion, sustainable development and the quality of life of citizens. In July 2017, Professor Yunus accompanied French President Emmanuel Macron and Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo to present Paris 2024 bid in front of the IOC in Lausanne. In September 2017, Paris was officially awarded the responsibility for organising 2024 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games.
As a part of the promotion of social dimension of Olympic 2024 Yunus Centre Paris, Yunus Sports Hub will organise a series events in various cities of France in collaboration with famous sports event organisation Tour De France. Professor Yunus had a meeting during this visit, with the chairman and the CEO of Tour De France to discuss the basic design of the multi-city social business design competitions and idea exchanges for promoting and supporting sports and athletics.
